Tippy's fairy godmother smiled as she watched what was happening at the old Orphan Train railroad car. "What a sad situation for thousands of children that didn't have any parents. Many of them didn't speak English and didn't know where they were being taken. Sad, sad, but leave it to little Tippy to come to the rescue of one of the very last little girls. Poor thing doesn't even know her name. Her parents and the rest of her family are gone. Right at this moment Tippy and a dream of a new and bright future are the only two things she has going for her. By the looks of things the new and bright future isn't even something she can imagine. "Okay, Tippy, do what you do best; make a friend and get her to smile. A girl's best friend is a new outfit and a furry friend. That little starving puppy sure looks like he could use a friend too. I think those bunny rabbits will be fine. There are flowers and grass and of course, Mr. Skeeter, the squirrel is the neighborhood watchman. He will look out for everyone. Let's go, Tippy. Tell her all about your years at the school and the mistakes you made. Some of those stories just might make her smile."
The fairy godmother smiled as she listened from the front of the school. "Sometimes being invisible is a good thing. We tend to make mistakes when we are being watched. That's right, Tippy, you are doing a great job. She motioned for a little fairy practicing her lessons and told her to come and stand by her side and watch how a fairy in good standing helps others. The little apprentice watched and listened carefully because soon she would be practicing to get her wings if she passed all of her tests.

"Okay my new friend the first thing we have to do is get you some new clothes. Those are all raggedy and dirty. Since you are human you need shoes too. I'll get you some that are sturdy and will last a long time. She nodded her head to one side and waved her beautiful wings and suddenly the little girl had on clean and modern clothes and shoes on her feet.
"Come with me and we will talk. There is a small farm close by and I think there will be a quiet place to talk and maybe see some farm animals."

"I bet you feel better now, don't you? That's what I thought. Well, I will begin my story then you can tell me a story about your life. First of all, I was not born being able to make wishes come true. Plus I couldn't help people, I could barely help myself. I looked a little bit like you, but I didn't have any wings. I had to earn them. That took a terribly long time. I spilled things, I broke things and I talked too much. At least that was what the headmistress always told me. She said I was way too social and that I should listen and not talk. If I didn't I would never get my wings and I would not be able to help people. If I did good deeds and was brave and save some folks from mean people, or from falling off a ladder and lots of other things, that someday I might even have a statue in my honor. It would go in gardens. People would plant butterfly bushes and other flowers around it. Lady bugs and other helpful garden insects would like to come to those gardens where my statue would be. I would be remembered for my good deeds forever and ever."
Tippy's fairy godmother frowned a bit and whispered, "Slow down Tippy. You are making yourself sound awfully important. You and your new friend need to pick out a name for her. Did you forget your mission?"
Tippy felt bad and said, "Now the next step is to pick out a name for you. Do you know any names that you would like to choose from? I think it should be something different and that when people hear your name they immediately think about you."
Tippy got off the swing and said, "Why don't we take a walk. Maybe we can see something that you like and you can choose that for your name."
The two held hands and felt an immediate feeling that sometimes sisters have. Then they saw it. A clearing of trees, but the grass was so green it almost hurt your eyes. There was a pond that sunshine sparkled on and made the girls blink with it's brightness.
Nobody looked up at Tippy and said, "What is this place? I want my name to be what this place is called."
Tippy was so very glad that she had studied her history lessons. This place has many names, but one is Whitlee. It means clearing; like of a field with no trees maybe. Whitlee is a pretty name. Do you want that for a name? Nobody smiled and said, "Yes, I've not heard that name before. Someday will you help me learn to read and write? Then I will be able to write my pretty new name down. Tippy assured her that she would and said, "You can even go to school and learn many other things."
As they walked back to the old railroad car to check on the animals, Tippy said, "After we have something to eat, you need to tell me a story about how you happened to get here with no family and no name. Okay?"
